Empowering Words
The process of continuous improvement is something that is very common in the workplace. But what about in a person’s personal life and at home. Continuous improvement should be our daily goal as we become more Christ-like. I know I have my ups and downs and there are things that I can do to help with the down times. One of which is to use empowering words. I am starting small and I am going to try and change six words that I have when I am “feeling” a certain way. You might ask what the goal is so I am going to tell you. The goal is to lessen the negative feelings that I am feeling and even turn them into positive funny feelings.
When I am feeling…
When I am faced with the feelings, instead of saying I am frustrated I will say I am challenged. By doing so I lessen the frustration because the meaning of challenged is not that severe to me. This may not be so for others… When I am feeling lustful I chose to use the word under-utilized because it makes me laugh and breaks my mind set a bit.
The meaning we associate with words can really change the way we feel and live our lives. I am hoping by improving on my vocabulary I will be able to experience a fuller more fulfilled life.
When I am feeling…
- Lonely – I will change that to “temporarily on my own”
- Angry – I will change to “a little concerned”
- Stupid – I will change to “in the process of learning”
- Lustful – I will change to “under-utilized”
- Depressed – I will change to “its time to take action”
- Frustrated – I will change to “challenged”

Empowering words are a great way to get your mind out of a funk. :) I've tried to use them with my depression issue over the years. I'm not always successful but when I remember it almost always helps.
Good luck. :)
This is not my own. I picked this up at my car insurance office. :)

You Say: 'I'm too tired' God says: I will give you rest (Matt 11:28-30)
You Say: 'Nobody really loves me' God says: I love you (John 3:16, 34)
You Say: I can't go on God says: My grace is sufficiant (2 Cor 12:9 & Psalm 91:15)
You Say: I can't figure things out God says: I will direct your steps (Proverbs 3:5-6)
You say: I can't do it God says: You can do all things (Phil 4:13)
You say: I'm not able God says: I am able (2 Cor 9:8)
You say: It's not worth it God says: It will be worth it (Roman 8:28)
You say: I can't forgive myself God says: I forgive you (1 John 1:9, Romans 8:1)
You say: I can't manage God says: I will supply your needs (Phil 4:19)
You say: I'm afraid God says: I have not given you a spirit of fear (2 Tim 1:7)
You say: I'm always worried and frustrated God says: Cast all your cares on ME (1Peter 5:7)
You Say: I'm not smart enough God says: I give you wisdom (1 Cor 1:30)
You say: I feel all alone God says: I will never leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5)
This came to mind as I was reading your post. :)
I know what you mean about being consistent. Why is it we do things for awhile they work great then we stop and things go back to crap. Why is it so hard to maintain??
Go figure!
"Why is it so hard to maintain?"
Well, you know. We're human. Our "flesh" battles with our "spirit". When Jesus was in the garden praying and he found his friends sleeping ... Remember what he said? The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. I believe He gives us the strength we need to be consistant. I think (this is my own opinion) it's a journey. We know what it is we have to do but no matter how many times we try ... we fail. Then there comes this "revelation". It's knowledge we have but the light bulb hasn't gone off over top our heads and hearts yet. There's a point in our lives when this revelation hits us that we can't do it on our own. To me, it's a growing, learning process.
I'll confess. God's still a working on me. (I like that song.)
Good Goal!!! I was just today talking.... lecturing my DD about the power of words. We do what we speak and hear; Period.
Changing a word changes everything.
An example I often use is like this;
If I tell a mechanic
"Don't drop that wrench"
Guaranteed he will drop the wrench.
If I tell the same person,
"hold onto that tight"
He will never drop.
God created the world with words,
Jesus is the 'Word'
Words have power; period.
Keep up the good work with your words....
P.S. Under-utilized....:ROFL
I like what you said about God creating the world with words... so true. Words are so powerful and they can instantly change how a person feels and thinks. I wish I was learning about this stuff earlier.
I got a kick out of the "under-utilized" one. I have been waiting for someone to call me a sinner but my goal when I came up with the word was to make me laugh about the situation making it easier to change my frame of mind.
I love that! Especially the under utilized! LOL!
I have a friend that is always after me about the effect of words. I like this idea. I may have to steal it and make my own list cause...your's isn't exaclty what I need! he he he.
