Are Your Kids Brushing Their Teeth

Last week I was spent some time with a friend of mine whom is a dentist and we were discussing how children these days seem to see the dentist for the first time in the hospital. These are children, typically under the age of 5, that have not been taught to properly take care of their teeth. Of course their diet plays a large role in tooth decay as well. YOu can't let your kids sip on soda pop all day without problems. Your teeth are meant to last a lifetime! Tooth decay, or cavities, and periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, can be avoided or reduced by the daily removal of plaque. Plaque is made up of germs that live on your teeth all the time. It is important to remove this plaque daily to prevent these germs from making acid and other products that can cause cavities and harm your gums and the bone around your teeth. If you spend less than three minutes brushing your teeth, all the plaque is probably not being removed. Also, a toothbrush with worn-out bristles...

First Day of School

8/25/10 marks the first day Madalyn will start school.  Yes, she is going to Kindergarten.  I have taken the whole day off work just so I can walk her to class and spend the rest of the day pacing, wondering, impatiently waiting for the day to end so I can interrogate her about her day.  I am so excited and quite honestly shocked that she is growing up so fast.

Volunteering as a Family

As parents, you want to guide and support your children toward a healthy future. How can you set good examples for your children? How can you do more together as a family? Community service and volunteering are ways to do both. Following are some ideas on how you can be involved as a family in your community. With good adult supervision, even your small children can work as volunteers. What To Know. What To Do. Children whose parents spend lots of leisure time with them are less likely to do drugs than children whose parents do not. Community service is a great way for families to work together and offers a positive learning experience for children. Children learn selflessness and develop a greater appreciation for what they have and for the caring people in their lives. Check out city/local papers or the bulletin board at your grocery store or place of worship for places and events where you can serve together. Talk to single parents and seniors on your block about their needs; ...

Reunion

Image
This weekend was my 20 year high school reunion and I was hesitant to attend because I have not seen the majority of these people for so long.  Nevertheless, I thought I would give it a shot.  I went to the Gap and got a pair of   Gap Straight jeans (medium wash)  and a Blue and White Thin Striped Shirt , the outfit looked pretty sharp as it should since I had the sales reps pick it out for me. Heck I have not been clothes shopping in years. Anyhow, I went to the initial meet and greet with the idea to shake everyone's hand before I left. After the first couple hours I had already had some great conversations with many people that I had not seen in years but even more interesting was the conversations that I had with people that I did not hang out with in high school. I must say it was a blast and if your reunion is coming up I definitely recommend attending, you will be glad you did. Step outside the box and look for to make new connections. You never know if...
